Negative questions: We have seen that indirect speech is very popular in Nepalese. One of the most frequent formulas is the negative question. The particle “ra,” studied in chapter 6.3.3, can be often found in negative questions. This particle is used in order to ask short questions.
Don’t you eat vegetables? तपार्इ फलफूल खानुहुन्न ?
Don’t you speak Nepali? तपार्इ नेपाली बोल्नुहुन्न र ?
Doesn’t your mother like Nepal? तपार्इको आमा नेपाललार्इ माया गर्नुहुन्न र ?
Doesn’t Janak come to Pokhara? जनकजी पोखरा आउनुहुन्न र ?
Don’t you remember me? तपार्इ मलार्इ चिन्नुहुन्न र ?
Isn’t it raining in Pokhara? पोखरामा पानी पर्दैन र ?
Aren’t you married? तपार्इले बिहे गर्नुहुन्न र ?
Can’t you come tomorrow? तपार्इ भोली आउनसक्नुहुन्न र ?
Isn’t he/she hungry? वहाँलार्इ भोक लाग्दैन रे हो ?
Don’t you need a guide? हजुरलार्इ गाइड चाहिदैँन र ?
